ASPR is continuing to invest in special pathogen preparedness through the NSPS STAND Awards, which will support up to 21 health care facilities as they strengthen readiness for threats like Bundibugyo Ebolavirus and Andes Hantavirus. Building on the first round of STAND Awards to 54 health care facilities across 28 states, the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC) has issued a second request for proposals and will award a total of up to $10.5 million to 21 additional health care facilities to strengthen Level 2 special pathogen capabilities.
Awardees will build or maintain the ability to deliver safe, specialized care, support national surge events, serve as expert resources in their regions, and more. ASPR’s funding enables these facilities to continue to grow their special pathogen preparedness capabilities and help fill existing gaps in health care system readiness. Recent Bundibugyo Ebolavirus and Andes Hantavirus outbreaks remind us why this work matters. This investment will enhance frontline clinicians’ preparedness, strengthen workforce training and standards, and improve the nation’s ability to protect the public’s health from special pathogen threats.
