The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a cybersecurity alert about a widespread information technology (IT) outage affecting Microsoft Windows hosts, attributed to a recent update from CrowdStrike. CISA has acknowledged the issue and initiated collaboration with CrowdStrike, alongside various governmental and international partners, to assess and support recovery efforts. The outage specifically impacted Windows 10 and later systems but did not affect Mac and Linux hosts. CrowdStrike confirmed that the problem stemmed from a Falcon content update rather than malicious cyber activity. They identified and isolated the issue, subsequently deploying a fix. CISA also noted instances of threat actors exploiting the situation for phishing and other malicious activities. They advised organizations and individuals to remain cautious, follow guidance from trusted sources, and avoid interacting with suspicious emails or links.
