AIMMC and Other Chicago Hospitals Conduct First Receiver Decontamination Training

Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (AIMMC), a member of the Chicago Healthcare System Coalition for Preparedness and Response (CHSCPR) and Chicago’s Regional Hospital Coordination Center, recently conducted First Receiver decontamination training with an engaged cohort of staff members. The intensive, day-long training session was preceded by a virtual, independent learning module. In-person, staff members then received a summary of key information, observed instructive demonstrations, and worked together while participating in an innovative, facility-wide exercise. Decontamination supply and equipment staging, proper PPE donning and doffing, and decontamination procedures for ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients were all put to practice during the exercise.

AIMMC joins Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, UI Health, and Prime Healthcare Resurrection Medical Center in conducting First Receiver decontamination training at their facilities this spring, supported by CHSCPR. This training is critical in helping staff members familiarize themselves with the plans and resources that will keep them and their patients safe during a real hazardous materials/decontamination incident.
