Climate Resilience for Health Care (CR4HC) Toolkit

The CR4HC is intended for emergency management professionals in health care, as well as others involved in healthcare organizations’ emergency preparedness, sustainability, and resilience planning. This Toolkit provides evidence-based recommended actions to increase organizational resilience to climate-related disasters and extreme weather events, and includes case studies that illustrate real-world applications of these recommended actions. CR4HC also includes links to additional tools and resources that can help organizations to implement recommended climate resilience actions.

As we have seen, changes in the timing, geography, and severity of extreme weather events can stress healthcare systems – by, for example, damaging buildings, transportation infrastructure, power grids, and supply chains. Disruptions in healthcare delivery related to these events can be costly to healthcare organizations and the communities they serve. The CR4HC Toolkit lays out an approach to enhancing climate resilience that is aligned with an all-hazards approach to healthcare organizations’ emergency preparedness. Learn more on climate.gov.
