Join the National Mass Violence Center (NMVC) for a timely discussion about the Continuum of Mass Violence Behavioral and Mental Health Services from Preparedness Through Response and Resiliency. Mass violence incidents can be very traumatic for victims, survivors, first responders, and community members. Some people may experience a variety of temporary reactions that will dissipate over a period of several weeks to a couple of months; while others will experience a range of longer-term reactions that include depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, anger, and challenges in stress management. Communities must be prepared with quality behavioral and mental health services and support that identify and address these needs, and provide evidence-based services across the immediate, short-term and long-term continuum of mass violence preparedness, response, recovery and resilience.

As a result of participating in this National Town Hall, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify evidence-based practices in effective behavioral and mental health responses to mass violence victims and survivors, and resources to support their implementation.
  • Describe the core elements of Improving Community Preparedness TTA (ICPTTA) Best Practice #11, Community Behavioral Health Response, to facilitate effective planning and preparation.
  • Identify effective interventions that can be utilized by practitioners at the Friends & Relatives Center, Family Assistance Center, and Resiliency Center, and resources available from the NMVC that provide guidance and support.
  • Describe behavioral and mental health interventions that are specific to child and adolescent victims, and resources for schools to provide support across the continuum.
  • Describe the behavioral/mental health impact on victims, survivors and community members, based upon findings from the NMVC’s ongoing MVI needs assessment project.

NOTE: ASL Interpreters will be available during the LIVE session.
