The National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC) selected 54 health care facilities across 28 states and U.S. territories (including Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Rush University Medical Center in Chicago) as recipients of the NSPS STAND Award to strengthen special pathogen preparedness nationwide. These health care facilities demonstrate strong leadership and readiness to build sustainable capabilities that protect patients, health care workers, and communities from special pathogen threats. Selected facilities will receive up to $500,000 each to strengthen critical infrastructure, conduct in-depth staff training, and obtain specialized equipment consistent with NSPS Level 2 requirements. NETEC and the Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers will provide expert technical assistance, training, and evaluation tools to support these recipients as they prepare for and respond to special pathogens.
